University of Northwestern (UNW) is a Private university, private Christianity, Christian university in Roseville, Minnesota. History It was established in 1902 as ''Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training School'' by William Bell Riley, a pastor at First Baptist Church of Minneapolis. In 1951, the school began offering baccalaureate programs. Prior to July 1, 2013 the school was called ''Northwestern College''. UNW also owns a chain of radio stations across the Midwest and Eastern United States, broadcasting listener-supported Christian radio, Christian music and teaching programs. Noted evangelism, evangelist Billy Graham (evangelist), Billy Graham served as the school's second president from 1948 to 1952. The school bought its current campus, the former Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary, from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in 1971 for 1.1 million dollars. Roseville is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. It is one of two Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Twin Cities suburbs that are adjacent to both Saint Paul and Minneapolis (the other is Lauderdale, Minnesota, Lauderdale). The land comprising Falcon Heights, Minnesota, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, and southern Roseville was unincorporated area, unincorporated until Roseville incorporated in 1948 and Falcon Heights and Lauderdale incorporated in 1949. History Roseville's land was originally settled by the Santee Sioux, Dakota and Ojibwe peoples. The first white settlers came in 1843, and the Native Americans in the United States, Native Americans left the area by 1862. Rose Township was established in 1858; it was named after one of the first settlers, Isaac Rose.
